Wilding your Perennial Garden: Designing the Naturalistic Pollinator Flower Garden at Massachusetts Horticultural Society https://www.masshort.org/upcoming-classes/?loxi_pathname=%2F241105-wilding-your-perennial-garden-designing-the-naturalistic-pollinator-flower-garden-3-session-workshop-7626

10am – 2pm, 3 Tuesdays, Nov 5 , Nov 12 , Nov 19

Whether you want to add grasses and pollinators to an traditional perennial garden, create a meadow garden, or a mix of both, my class will teach how.

Love the new wilder gardens?  Want to use native grasses and flowers to attract pollinators? Small space or large, you’ll learn how to design “wild” for your existing or new perennial garden.

First, we start with Decluttering Your Garden and Plants You Love Exercises, we use the same principles as the Kondo method to tidy your home. Then you might create a “wish” list for plants you might buy. Once you have your list of the plants you love and are thriving in your garden, it’s time to for the next step to design your garden.

In this three-session workshop, you’ll learn how to how to select a personal garden color palette, how to create planting combinations that will flower in seasonal succession, and how to use drifts, masses, and individual plants to create garden lay-outs. We’ll note plants to add for winter interest.

Our focus will be the wild pollinator perennial flower garden sequenced to bloom from spring thru fall. You’ll practice creating a small garden with your own premeasured small garden area (no larger 20 x 8’—bring photos too). Note: larger spaces repeat the design of a smaller area. Maria will lead you through the process she uses and developed in her design work spanning 30 years.

Tutorial walks in MHS will inspire our garden design. (Dress for the weather!). Color slide lectures, hand-outs, practice worksheets, and instructor review of your in-class work will get you started on your naturalistic pollinator flower garden.
