It was a beautiful summer to study the unfolding color of MASS HORT’s Bressingham Garden . The summer ‘s four- session workshop (Perennial and Shrub Planting Design for Seasonal Color taught by Maria von Brincken) was held at Elm Bank. This advanced seminar, developed for students with some horticultural expertise/background, included lectures, practice exercises in color and planting combinations to create color and texture combinations resulting in planting designs that concentrate on a sequence of seasonal combinations.
“Weekly tutorial walks in the Bressingham Garden at Elm Bank was a great instructional tool” Maria comments, “a wonderful opportunity to use this garden and Weezy’s garden (by Julie Messervy) for the students to see the concepts applied.” The students were enthusiastic about Maria’s knowledge and approach to teaching. The LI is planning more seminars at Mass Horticultural Societys’ gardens this upcoming year.
This fall on Saturday, October 18th from 1-5pm, students can engage with Maria for a one day seminar at the BAC to create a color palette, practice the system to create planting combinations in seasonal sequence, and take a tutorial walk to the lush urban gardens at the Prudential Center Gardens . SEM0062 Perennial and Shrub Planting Design for Seasonal Color is a one day workshop. If you wish to register go to LI at BAC www.the-bac.edu/li. Maria looks forward to teaching this workshop.
