Setting the Stage for Wonder

Landscape design has many moving parts.

Function

Design begins with Function. Circulation or the way people and cars move thru the space is one. It’s the placement of walkways, driveways, parking so they allow an ease of getting from one point to another in our busy lives.

Creating the shape and size of planting beds is also an aspect of function. Enough planting space is necessary to design and create stunning borders.

Beauty

Effective plant combinations, flowering natural drifts, and bloom succession create a sense of abundance. Add in the elements of a winter garden for a four season landscape.

Horticulture

Choosing plants that will thrive in a particular location and not outgrow where they are planted, or overtake the garden is vital to creating happy places that nurture us.

Native Plants

Using native plants increases pollinator and bird populations. Removing and avoiding invasive plants helps our native forests thrive.

Intentional Design

As a designer, my intention, is to take all the moving parts of Beauty, Function, Horticulture, Native Plants Choices ,and create a place that asks you to linger long enough to experience wonder.

Recently, I experienced a moment of wonder in my own garden.

The climbing vine, Clematis ‘Sweet Autumn’, seen above, has seed heads that shimmer in the early January morning light. It captured my attention.
