Fall Foliage Tapestry in my Entry Garden
I’ve just updated the plantings with some fall blooming mums and asters on the steps and landing. But I’ve loved this foliage tapestry that greets me daily all thru the seasons. Now the richness of color, contrast, and detail of form in the foliage combination reflects a fall garden in that the large purple aster…

Traditional Home Makeover
This home used be hidden by plants–well groomed, but awful! It was like a pretty girl with a bad haircut. The “before design” and “after design renovation” shows an overgrown landscape planting that hides the best features of this traditional New England home. The “after” landscape improvement photo, shows a carefully designed mix of foliage…

Irene’s Storm Tossed Combinations
Monday, August 29th–the day after Irene gusted, blew, and poured–I snapped this photo of my back shade garden. Storm tossed, but still intact and lovely, the flowers of the hosta (lavendar) and the ligularia dentata ‘Othello’ (yellow)– are lovely in combination. Yet it’s the foliage of all the plants–ferns, hostas, daphne, ladies’ mantle–that really makes…

A Great Place to Hang Out
In my work as a landscape designer, I create spaces for entertaining. I designed the deck shown above. The plan shows the footprint with the seating and openings for circulation. Here’s one built last winter shown just graded and seeded for the lawn surround. Now this section of the landscape design is almost completed –just…

Busy Season, Such a Beautiful Spring to enjoy Flowering Trees
Forgot to publish this photo of the landscape I designed that includes the existing flowering trees leading the eye up the drive. Working with the client I created new driveway perennial bed for waves of seasonal color. The Spring bulbs that you see flowering in harmony above is the first wave of the season. Now in early July the beds are filled…

Just Completed– A Garden to Heal
Gardens are many things to many people. This one was designed as a healing garden. The plan included favorite plants, grade changes (the newly seeded lawn area was a low point and now higher flows with the existing lawn grade and the ground sloped away in planting area) provided by a low stone wall on the back side.…

Work in Progress–Transformation Almost Done
We’re waiting for the lighting and railing contractors. When the lighting’s installed, the mulch can be applied. But in the meantime, this brand new landscape works its magic. The wall, walkway, large ornamental stones, landing and steps refurbish, and the plantings all just installed.

Classic Style Courtyard Fountain
It’s wonderful for me to visit landscapes I’ve designed and installed a few years later. This landscape/garden was designed in a ‘classic’ style to echo the home’s architecture. The hard-scape–the sitting/retaining wall, the steps and landing, the fountain, the courtyard paving all looked great when just installed. The plantings did too. But now 6 years later, the plantings…
